Your boat. Framed in solid wood.
The same editorial typographic poster — boat name, canal route, the day that mattered — set inside a hand-finished solid wood frame with a shatter-resistant plexiglass front. Hangs ready out of the box.
Setting your name…
FSC-certified
Black or natural oak, 12mm depth. Real wood, not MDF veneer. Sturdy enough for a galley wall, light enough for the post.
Shatter-resistant
Not glass — won't break in transit, won't smash if a rope catches it. Sailing-friendly. Optical clarity matches museum-spec glazing.
6–10 working days
Ships flat-packed and tracked. Free over £40. Hanging hardware on the back — no tools, no faff, on the wall in two minutes.
How we frame it
Profile, glaze, and the hardware on the back.
Two profiles, both 20mm flat-front
Black wood sits a touch heavier — satin lacquer over solid timber, deep matte finish, no grain showing. It frames the boat name like a piece of editorial design, which is what we were after when we picked it. Reads gallery, not gift shop.
Natural oak shows the grain. Lighter, warmer, sits comfortably in a galley with brass and varnished wood already in the room. The right pick if the boat already has signwriting in traditional canal colours and you don't want to compete with it.
Acrylic, not glass
Every frame ships with shatter-resistant acrylic glazing — not real glass. The reason is shipping: a glass frame on a small parcel tracks a 5–8% breakage rate; acrylic is closer to 0.5%. Acrylic is also lighter, which matters if the print is going onto a galley wall where every kilo earns its mounting.
The optical quality is genuinely close — anti-reflective acrylic from the same supplier museums use for travelling exhibitions.
D-ring and wire, pre-fitted
Every frame arrives with two D-rings screwed into the back and a 1m picture wire pre-fitted between them. No sawtooth hangers (they mark wallpaper), no string. Hang it on a single picture hook or two screws — the wire takes either.
On a boat: a single brass cup hook into a tongue-and-groove panel holds an A3 framed print without a problem. We've tested it on our own moorings.
Why framed, not print + frame separately
A trip to a high-street framer for a custom 30mm border, acrylic glazing, D-rings and wire on an A3 typically lands at £45–£70 once the framer's labour is in. Our framed price covers the same inclusions plus the personalised print itself. The maths is usually obvious; the bigger gain is not having to walk a poster into a shop and explain what you want.
A few common ones.
- What size is "300×400mm"?
- Roughly A3 — actually 300mm × 400mm, which is fractionally taller and narrower than A3 (297×420mm). Picked because it's a standard wood-frame size everyone stocks; replacement glazing is easy. 400×500mm is the ~A2 equivalent.
- Is the frame really wood?
- Yes — solid FSC-certified wood, not MDF with a print on top. You'll feel the weight when it arrives. Black is matte-painted, oak is the raw timber sealed with a satin finish.
- Can I see a proof before it's printed?
- The live preview is the proof. What you see is what we print, with the print colours sitting slightly more muted than screen because we convert to CMYK at the press. We won't email a separate proof.
- Returns?
- Personalised goods are made-to-order, so we can't accept returns for change of mind. If it arrives damaged or wrong, email us a photo within 14 days and we'll reprint it. Full details on our returns page.

How it's made
No warehouse. UK press. Tube and tag.
A short note on what your order touches between "Buy" and "delivered." We don't carry stock — every print starts life the day after the order lands. It's slower than a same-day delivery, and a lot quieter.
- Press
- British production via our print partner — Wakefield or Royston, depending on order routing on the day.
- Paper
- FSC-certified mill stock. 200gsm coated silk for the standard print, 250gsm uncoated for archival.
- Colour
- You see sRGB on screen; the press prints in FOGRA39 CMYK. The conversion makes deep greens and oxblood reds sit a touch more muted on paper than they look on a backlit display. Worth knowing.
- Lead time
- 1–2 working days at the press, then Royal Mail Tracked 48 — typically 2–4 working days transit on the British mainland. We email tracking the moment it ships.
- Packaging
- Kraft mailing tube, parcel tag, no plastic. The tube is sized for the print, not for flat-pack convenience — there's a reason a rolled poster lays flatter than a folded one.
- If something's wrong
- Send a photo within 14 days and we reprint — see returns. Personalised goods are exempt from change-of-mind returns under UK CCR 2013.
