For Boat Owners Personalised · UK printed

Boat gifts that aren't tat.

For canal boats, narrowboats, wide-beam barges, river cruisers. One thing done well — a typographic print of the boat's name, the waterway it lives on, and a date that mattered. Editorial paper, posted from the UK in five working days.

Most searches for boat gifts turn up nautical keyrings, waterproof phone cases, and sailing-themed novelties aimed at sea sailors. Our range is different: personalised gifts made specifically for canal boaters — the narrowboat owner, the hire-boat regular, the boater who knows every lock on their stretch by name. Everything is personalised to the actual boat name, printed in the UK and posted in five working days. A boat gift that earns its place on the wall.

The boat-name print.

Boat name in editorial serif, the waterway in small caps, the date in italic. Three sizes (A4 / A3 / A2), 200gsm semi-glossy paper, frame-ready straight from the kraft tube. Works for any named vessel — narrowboat, canal cruiser, barge, river boat.

Our range

What we make for boat owners.

The name print

Typographic poster with the boat name in display serif, the canal route in small caps, and a date in italic. Three sizes — A4, A3, A2 — on 200gsm semi-glossy archival paper. Frame-ready from the kraft tube. The most popular boat gift we make.

Framed print

The same print, delivered ready to hang in a solid wood frame with a white mount. No measuring, no hardware, no extra trip to the frame shop. For boat owners who want the gift to go straight on the wall.

Personalised mug

The boat name on an 11oz ceramic mug — the same typographic design as the print, in the same bottle-green-on-cream palette. A smaller boat gift and a practical daily object. Works as a standalone present or paired with the print as a set.

Note card pack

Six A6 note cards with the boat name and a short message on the reverse. Useful, personalised, and a good gift idea for the boater who has everything — a boat gift that actually gets used.

For the occasion

The right boat gift for any of these.

For Christmas

The most searched time of year for boat gifts, for good reason. A framed print of the boat, the waterway, and the year they got it — the gift that earns the square inch it takes up on the wall. Pair with the personalised mug for a complete set that works for the boater who already has everything generic.

For Father's Day

For the dad who can quote lock numbers on the Llangollen from memory, who owns more Nicholsons than novels, and who considers a slow cruise through the Shropshire Union a perfectly good week. Canal boat enthusiasts are specific people — a gift that uses the actual boat name is the one that shows you understood.

For a birthday

Forty, fifty, sixty — the ages at which the boat stops being a hobby and starts being a vocation. The birthday print marks the version of them that bought the boat, not just the age. Use the date they first cruised her, or the survey date, or the day they moved aboard.

For a new boat

The year they finally did it. The survey stress, the first night aboard, the first time they steered through a lock solo. Every boat owner remembers the date. The print gives it a permanent home on the wall of the boat — or the wall at home when they're not on the water.

For gift-buyers

Questions that come up.

I don't know the name of their boat.
Most boat owners are happy to mention the name unprompted — it's rarely a secret. If the surprise matters: check their Instagram or Facebook (boat photos almost always show the name), the boat licence disc in the cabin window, or the hire company's booking confirmation. Order with what you think it is and email us within 24 hours with a correction; we'll wait before printing.
Does it only work for narrowboats?
No — the customiser takes any boat name and any waterway. We print for narrowboats, wide-beam canal boats, barges, and river cruisers. The typography and design are rooted in canal boat tradition, but the result works for any vessel with a proper name and a waterway it calls home.
Will it arrive in time?
Standard delivery is 5–9 working days from order. December is busy — if it's a Christmas present and you're cutting it fine, email us first and we'll tell you honestly whether it's possible.
What goes in the route field?
Any waterway you like — the Grand Union, the Llangollen, the Thames, "the cut, anywhere". Up to 60 characters. We've had "every lock she ever steered", "Manchester to the sea and back", and "wherever the wind takes us". Type the moment, not just the map reference. Not sure of the canal name? Browse the full network on the Canal & River Trust website.
Do you make anything besides the print?
Yes — we make four products, all personalised to the boat name. The name print (A4 / A3 / A2, rolled in a kraft tube), the framed print (same design, ready to hang), the personalised mug (11oz ceramic, the same palette), and the note card pack (six A6 cards). All made to order, all using the boat name you type in the customiser.
Is this a better boat gift than a generic one?
Most boat gifts are the same everywhere: an anchor keyring, a nautical mug with a generic compass, a tea towel with the word "Captain" on it. A personalised gift using the actual boat name is the one boat gift idea that no one else will have thought of — because no one else's boat has the same name. Made in the UK, posted in five working days.
The thinking behind it

Personalised boat gifts that earn their keep.

Canal boat enthusiasts — avid boaters, liveaboards, the boater who has every stretch of the South Oxford memorised — all share one thing: the boat has a name, and the name matters. It was chosen deliberately. It has a story behind it. It's painted on the side and it's the first thing you say when someone asks about the boat. A gift that uses the actual boat name is the one that connects.

We use the traditional design language of the canal — bottle green, oxblood red, cream — in an editorial typographic layout that works in a modern home as well as it works in a boat cabin. One gift range, done properly: print, framed print, mug, and note cards. Each one personalised to the boat name and the waterway it calls home.
