  • Solid wood. Black or natural wood, 12mm face. Real wood, not MDF veneer. Sturdy enough for a galley wall, light enough for the post.
  • Plexiglass, not glass. The frame maker's specification gives plexiglass glazing: it does not break in transit, and it does not smash if something catches it in a cabin that moves.
  • UK delivery, 4 to 9 working days. Ships boxed and tracked, with free UK delivery. The print is fitted in the frame before it leaves, so you can hang it the day it lands.

Two profiles, both a 12mm face

Black reads as a rule round the print, not as an object in its own right, which is what suits type. The frame maker's specification names the material as wood and the profile as 12mm by 22mm; it does not name a finish, so we will not describe one beyond the colour.

Natural wood shows the grain. Lighter, warmer, sits comfortably in a galley with brass and varnished wood already in the room. The right pick if the boat already has signwriting in traditional canal colours and you don't want to compete with it.

Acrylic, not glass

Every frame ships with shatter-resistant acrylic glazing, not real glass. The reason is shipping: glass breaks in the post and acrylic does not. Acrylic is also lighter, which matters if the print is going onto a galley wall where every kilo earns its mounting.

How it hangs

The back of every frame carries sawtooth hangers, so it goes up on a single nail or screw. Screws and nails are not included, so have one ready. The print is already in place, so there is nothing to do first.

On a boat: an A3 framed print is light enough for a single brass cup hook into a tongue-and-groove panel.

Why framed, not print + frame separately

A trip to a high-street framer for a custom 30mm border and acrylic glazing on an A3 means paying for bespoke framing labour on top of the print - get a quote from your local framer and compare, because we are not going to invent their prices for you. Our framed price covers the same inclusions plus the personalised print itself. The maths is usually obvious; the bigger gain is not having to walk a poster into a shop and explain what you want.

Questions before you go

What sizes does the frame come in?

Two: A3 (297 × 420mm) and A2 (420 × 594mm), each in black or natural wood. Every size and frame, with its price, is listed in the box above.

Is the frame real wood?

Yes: the frame maker's specification names the material as wood, with a 12mm by 22mm profile. It does not name a finish, so we describe only the colour: black or natural wood.

Can I see a proof before it's printed?

Check it in the live preview before you pay: the wording, layout and background are the ones you chose, so read the spelling twice. Paper and screen never match exactly, so expect the colours to look slightly different in your hands. No separate proof is emailed.

Returns?

A framed name print is made to order, so we can't take it back for a change of mind. If it arrives damaged or wrong, tell us as soon as you can, with a photo, and we'll reprint or refund it. Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 still apply to the framed print. Full details on our returns page.
